# Pipelines

## Introduction

Pipelines allow you to control when, what, and how data moves between your connected systems.

You build pipelines visually by placing and connecting nodes to define the structure and logic for data flows. Each node performs a specific task - for example, the [trigger](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-nodes/trigger-node.md) node determines how and when a pipeline runs; the [connector](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-nodes/connector-node.md) node determines which external system and endpoint is called; the [map](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-nodes/map-node.md) node determines the correlation between source and target fields (and any data transformations required), etc.

During the prototyping/testing phase, you can run pipelines and monitor test runs in real time, directly from the editor. Once your pipeline is ready, you can enable automated triggers and [deploy](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-versions-and-deployments.md) to one or more environments.
