# Email templates

## Introduction

Email templates are predefined message templates that can be applied when configuring pipeline [*Notification* nodes](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-nodes/notification-node.md). Messages are created using [Markdown](#markdown-helper) (with integrated preview), and can include [payload, environment, and system variables](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-variables.md).

<summary>Viewing existing email templates</summary>

To view existing email templates for your organisation, select *Settings* from the navigation menu, then select *Email templates* from the *Company management* section. All existing email templates are shown. For example:

<summary>Working with email template content</summary>

### Introduction

Having chosen to create a new email template, or having selected an existing template, the template page is displayed. For example:

<div align="left" data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://2172380191-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8IqdqwZowcxtFpZfLa6k%2Fuploads%2FXJKAgqOf620Eb0npusoa%2Femail%20template.svg?alt=media&amp;token=e791a238-3e09-4507-8fea-f710778ad728" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

Here, you can add content for a new template, or update an existing template:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Update basic details**

In the *General* panel, enter a name and a `subject` for this template.&#x20;

* The `name` is displayed to users in Brigge wherever email templates can be selected (e.g. when configuring a [*Notification* node](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-nodes/notification-node.md)).
* The `subject` is the email message subject line to be used when this template is applied.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Add or update content**

In the *Content* panel, add the required email message content (in [Markdown](#markdown-helper) format). [Switch between text and preview modes](#using-with-the-content-editor) to see how your content will be rendered in email messages.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Using the content editor

The content editor has two modes: `content` and `preview`.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-cover data-type="image">Cover image</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Content</strong></td><td>Use the <code>content</code> tab to enter <a href="#markdown-helper">Markdown text</a> for the email template.</td><td><img src="https://2172380191-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8IqdqwZowcxtFpZfLa6k%2Fuploads%2F2H6h8RGiJqYE9n7E5RL3%2Femail%20templates%20-%20content.png?alt=media&amp;token=8a873ae9-52cc-410f-8d06-7fbf081d9916" alt=""></td><td>Having entered required content, switch to <code>preview</code> mode to see how this will be rendered when applied in email notifications.</td><td></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Preview</strong></td><td>Use the <code>preview</code> tab to see how the current markdown content renders.</td><td><img src="https://2172380191-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8IqdqwZowcxtFpZfLa6k%2Fuploads%2FUho4aIKQJUTCgC5edHWT%2Femail%20templates%20-%20preview.png?alt=media&amp;token=4d5138ed-63a5-4096-9156-aa27dc30b9e2" alt=""></td><td>This is a live preview - there's no need to save the template before previewing.</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

<summary>Deleting an email template</summary>

{% hint style="warning" %}
You can't delete an email template if it's currently configured in pipeline [*Notification* nodes](/documentation/brigge-for-transformers/pipelines/pipeline-nodes/notification-node.md). If you attempt to do so, the operation fails with a list of any pipelines where the template is in use.
{% endhint %}

To delete an email template, [access the *Email templates* page and select the required template](#viewing-existing-email-templates), then scroll to the end of the template and click the `delete` button. For example:

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://2172380191-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F8IqdqwZowcxtFpZfLa6k%2Fuploads%2FSxoiUkXjl8lcYHCdYfxh%2Fcreate%20template%201.png?alt=media&amp;token=8ead3a3a-9e1a-4132-816e-e4abc37610eb" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

When prompted, confirm that you want to proceed - after this, the template is removed immediately.
