# Convert node

## Overview

The *Convert* node can be used if the next step in a pipeline needs the same data in a different encoding or binary form. 

## Configuring a convert node

To configure a *Convert* node, choose the required [format](#available-conversion-methods) from the `method` dropdown list:

## Available conversion methods

| Option        | Description                                                                          | Use when...                                                                                           |
| ------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Base64 Encode | Converts binary or text data into a Base64 string.                                   | The downstream system expects data in Base64 format, or the transfer channel can't handle raw binary. |
| Base64 Decode | Converts a Base64 string back into its original data.                                | Incoming data is Base64 encoded and needs to be human-readable before processing.                     |
| Encrypt (PGP) | Encrypts data using PGP. The recipient needs the matching private key to decrypt it. | Sending sensitive data to an external party.                                                          |
| Decrypt (PGP) | Decrypts PGP-encrypted data using a private key.                                     | Receiving encrypted data from an external party for onward processing.                                |
| Gzip          | Compresses data to reduce its size.                                                  | Sending large payloads to a system that accepts compressed input.                                     |
| Gunzip        | Decompresses Gzip-compressed data.                                                   | Incoming data is compressed and needs to be expanded before processing.                               |
| JSON to CSV   | Converts JSON data into CSV format.                                                  | A downstream system expects tabular data rather than structured JSON.                                 |
| CSV to JSON   | Converts CSV data into JSON format.                                                  | A downstream system expects structured JSON.                                                          |
